Crash diets

The thing about diets is that any "diet" you adopt for some specific purpose(e.g. "I will eat a low-carb diet until I have lost 20 pounds" or "I will reduce my intake of fat and sugar until my cholesterol levels improve") is that you're assuming your "diet" is temporary, and at some point (after reaching your goal) you can "go back" to eating "junk! normally".  Well, if eating "normally" resulted in your current physical condition, what do you think will happen when you resume eating that way?  Hence the failure of most diets.  The only way a diet is going to work for you permanently is if it can become your PERMANENT ROUTINE, i.e. the way you eat for the rest of your life!  LIFESTYLE CHANGE is what I'm talking about.  So, who can follow a low-carb diet or a coconut diet or a no-sugar-or-fat-or-anything tasty diet or eat supplements and prepackaged meals FOREVER?  No one.  If you are ready to take that first step in your lifestyle change, message me & we'll get you on the right track!  I'd love to be your coach & be with you on this journey to a healthier YOU!

Greek yogurt fruit dip

Do you like Greek yogurt?  I wasn't a huge fan of the plain,
until I tried this new recipe!
This recipe will satisfy any sweet craving you have, and it's easy to make!  All you need is some Greek yogurt and an on-the-go packet of Crystal Light sugar free mix!  Stir packet into large container of Greek yogurt and stir.  Serve with fruit to dip in it & enjoy!:)  Tonight at our Beachbody Coach meeting I made this and we used peach/mango flavor Crystal Light... it was SOOO good!

Some things to think about...
Self-monitoring. One study found that people who kept a daily food log lost twice as much weight as those who didn’t. Writing down what you’re eating keeps you accountable and makes you think twice about going back for seconds. Keeping an exercise record can be extremely motivating as you review your progress and see how far you’ve come. And regular weighing, whether daily or weekly, has been linked to greater amounts of moderate weight loss and less weight regain. Self-monitoring offers an objective look at how you’re doing in relation to your goals and that’s extremely helpful, especially when you hit a plateau and need to adjust your approach.
Sensible nutrition. Avoid programs or "diets" that eliminate entire food categories, such as fruit, grains, or fats. According to the American Dietetic Association, all foods fit in a healthy diet. Plans that advocate special combinations of foods, certain foods in unlimited quantities, or are too restrictive, don’t work. Eat a variety of whole grains, colorful vegetables and fruits, low-fat dairy products and lean sources of protein and you’re on your path to a healthier diet.
Regular exercise. Getting active and staying active is the cornerstone to maintaining a healthy body weight. Exercise optimizes conditions in the brain for enhanced learning and decision-making. That’s extra brainpower to help you adopt healthier habits and to keep you on track. It’s also a great mood-elevator, boosts metabolism and can help counteract emotional eating. A weight loss program should encourage you to find ways to make physical activity a part of your everyday life.

Quinoa Salad

‎1 cup of quinoa, cooked
1 can of black beans (I like Eden)
1 mango, diced small
1/2 of english cuke or 1 smallish regular cuke, diced
1 red pepper, diced
1 bunch of green onion (Scallions), diced
1 tsp of curry
1/2 tsp of cumin
sea salt and pepper to your own taste
4 tbsp of either white wine vinegar or white balsamic vinegar. I used 2 of each
Mix everything together and chill....then eat it and enjoy! Very good!!

STOP! Don't hit that...

STOP!  Don't hit that "EASY BUTTON" ... The results are only temporary!  I don't know about you but I prefer to lose the weight/inches ONCE not pay boocoos of $$ every time I gain it back, just to try another FAD!  And honestly I prefer not to live on one real meal a day, I enjoy food too much!  Our bodies NEED fuel(good calories) so bragging about a shake having the least amount of calories really means nothing to me personally.  I also do not want to pack my body full of soy protein & aspartame while claiming not to even work out!  Sounds healthy right?  hmm... Sorry but you can't truly get toned w/out working out...if you could, well simply put there wouldn't be a world full of obese people.  If these "easy" fixes truly worked on lazy people needing a quick fix, well...don't you think we'd have a whole lot less obesity in America?  The truth is, there is NO EASY BUTTON ... nothing can replace exercise & clean healthy eating!  If you sit on the couch and eat potato chips and snack cakes...any way you look at it, wrapped up in saran wrap to squeeze away the water weight inches or not, you will still be at the same health & fitness level as when you sat down and started feeding your body junk!   If you want to get rid of the water weight you put on your body from feeding it junk....there are many options for you, water pills, wraps, grapefruit diets, the list of fads goes on... and on...If you are ready to change your life & start fueling your body with the foods it needs, build muscle so your body will burn the fat, lower your cholesterol & blood pressure among other health changes you will see and you need the motivation & support to DO IT...here's what I have to offer!

Applesauce (baking tip!)

Here's a helpful tip. When baking you can substitute unsweetened applesauce for vegetable oil and plain Greek yogurt for butter. Switch them out cup-for-cup when measuring and you can't taste a difference! That will cut a lot of the unhealthy fats out of your recipe.

New routine...

My sweet baby girl will be starting Pre-K this Fall!!  She is ready to go, she's been begging for ever about a year now...so my husband & I talked, we think she will do great!  When we went to register she actually got "sad at me" b/c baby brother & I wouldn't leave her at school and go back home!  Ok I have to be honest here, I was kinda hoping she'd back out of wanting to go once she saw how big the school was and everything... and enjoy one last year at home with Momma!  Nope...wrong, she was SO excited, which I am thankful for & we spoke with her teachers, I know she's going to love it there!  The only thing I am unsure about is our schedule....heh...we don't have one!  I've been a SAHM for 4 years now, and we have enjoyed our routine of staying home, doing house work, playing & learning!  We haven't had any set schedule other than Church on Sunday mornings @ 10:30 so this early morning stuff may be a little crazy FUN!  I found these little printables that I think will help her be excited to get ready in the mornings "all by herself", she's an independent little stinker pot!  I'm sure this Momma will have a few tears streaming down my face come August but I'm sure we'll make it just fine!

Healthy Snack Recipe Round-Up!

strawberry mice recipe Familyfun.com

I am the mom of a seriously picky eater...of course, that is totally her dad’s fault and has absolutely nothing to do with me. Okay, I might be a little picky too… plus I like Skittles and Cheetos. A lot.  I also have a little boy who would eat dirt just about anything, so he's not hard to please but loves food so much we might as well make the snacks fun right?
Finding healthy snacks that my kids (and I) will enjoy can be difficult. Here are some recipes that make healthy eating look like it might be fun!

Frozen Fruit Roll Ups
These Frozen Fruit and Yogurt Rollups from TidyMom look like something I’d eat every day!! You can make a bunch of them in advance, which I love AND they’re frozen–perfect for the upcoming warm weather.

fruit roll up recipe
Speaking of Fruit Roll-Ups…who knew it was so easy to make your own? To make these, Shaina from Food for My Family starts off by making her own applesauce, which not only looks surprisingly easy but is a handy recipe all by itself.

safari dip - Healthy Kid Snack
When I was a kid, stuffed celery was one of my favorite snacks, and I love the addition of animal crackers in this recipe from BHG.com. That’s not just plain peanut butter, it’s smooth-as-silk peanut butter and honey dip. Yum!

Rainbow Fruit - Healthy Kid Snack
This fruit rainbow from Tangled and True we used at the kids' last birthday bash back in March...we had a shamrock theme so we used the fruit rainbow with a tiny treat at the end of the rainbow, a small dish of Rolos....to my surprise, the only thing left at the end of the party?  The ROLOS!  I love fun and easy ideas like this, and the fact that the fruit can be swapped out to fit your kid’s taste makes it even better.

Strawberry Mice - Healthy Kid Snack
Living in rural Arkansas, mice are my mortal enemy. But if they all looked like this, we might be BFF’s! Strawberries are my little girl’s favorite fruit, and these just look too easy not to make for her.  You can find this and some other fun and healthy snack ideas on FamilyFun.com.

I’m really excited to try some of these snacks out on my kids. Right now their favorite healthy snack is banana slices with granola or multi-grain Cheerios sprinkled on top. I’d love to hear what fun snacks your family is loving!
